RK-FINFA
Rural Kenya Financial Inclusion Facility
About the Project
The Rural Kenya Financial Inclusion Facility (RK-FINFA) is a six-year development project jointly financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Government of Kenya, running from 2022 to 2028. The project is implemented by the Financial and Sectoral Affairs Department under the National Treasury and Economic Planning.
RK-FINFA supports the transformation of Kenya's rural and smallholder agriculture sector through private sector-led development. It focuses on improving access to appropriate financial services for smallholder farmers and rural MSMEs engaged in agricultural value chains — with a particular focus on women, youth, and vulnerable households.
The project operates two primary investment instruments: the Rural Credit Guarantee Scheme (R-CGS), which de-risks lending to smallholders and rural enterprises through Kenyan financial institutions, and the Green Financing Facility (GFF), anchored at the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC), which supports climate-smart investments in agricultural value chains.
